En suite bathroom door ideas
The en-suite bathroom was once something mere royalty could expect to be privy too.
Yet these days, most family homes and apartments have an en-suite bathroom attached to the master bedroom.
In some cases, space is not an issue, and there is ample room to ensure the entrance to the en-suite by no means impedes upon the bedroom from which it is attached.
But when space is an issue, attention should be paid to the door that separates the en-suite from the bedroom, to ensure the bathroom does not encroach upon the general look and feel of the bedroom itself.
Types of en suite doors
There are several types of en-suite doors to choose from.
Such as:
- Wooden doors to match any cupboards in the adjoining bedroom;
- Stained glass doors or feature doors;
- Glass panelled doors when less privacy is needed;
- Sliding doors for extra privacy;
- Bi-fold doors; and
- Partition doors.
The type of door you choose to separate your en-suite from the bedroom depends a lot on the space you have available, and also the interior style and decor of the rooms.
It is more likely that the door into the en-suite will match the decor in the bedroom, rather than the bathroom itself, and it has been fashionable of late not to have a door between the adjoining rooms, but rather build in a turned hallway for privacy, with no door attached.
Either way, the door you choose for your en-suite needs to be suited to withstand wet conditions and steam.
This may mean you need to negotiate the door's finishing, or the paintwork or glasswork that is used.
Usually, for resale and practical values, the door should not be see-through, as this technique has frequently been used in hotels and is not a popular choice for privacy matters if you are not sharing the space with your significant other.
To choose the right en-suite door for you first consider:
- Appropriate materials;
- Privacy;
- Durability; and
- Colour.
An interior decorator or carpenter can also often offer some of the best ideas for your en-suite door.
