Bathroom basin: The quick way to update a bathroom
The basin is arguably the most used piece of bathroom furniture. It's what visitors are most likely to use, and residents will use it many times a day to wash hands, brush teeth in and generally tidy up over. The quickest way, then, to give your bathroom a new look is to start with the basin and fittings, and there is no shortage of options for very effectively creating an entirely different look and feel.
Bathroom Basins
Choosing a new bathroom basin is no longer as simple, or as boring, as picking a colour for the stock standard bench top model. Be creative, and investigate options for free standing and bench incorporated types to give your bathroom the best chance of making a splash.
- Free standing pedestal basins can really make a visual statement. They come in a plethora of designs and colours, and are great for hiding the plumbing pipes within the stand. Pedestal basins become a feature, as they stand alone in the bathroom, so choose one that you love. For the comfort of users, you will also need to consider other bathroom furniture such as shelving and added bench space
- Wall mounted basins jut out from a flat wall or corner, and are shaped accordingly. They are commonly squared shapes, but offer a range of designs, from very simple oblong 'stand alone' basins, through deep bowls, rounded, square and other shapes, with storage space or side drainage. Available too are very tiny, minimalist basins with a single tap, much like those seen in more exclusive restaurant restrooms
- Countertop basins are simply a bowl shaped basin mounted on top of the counter rather than sunken into it. They come in a variety of shapes and styles, with square or oblong ones and simple bowl shapes being the most common. They can create a simple, stylish effect
- Glass basins and bowls are made from toughened glass, and come in a huge variety of colours and styles. Consider a benchtop glass bowl basin, a wall mounted blue, green or rose coloured bowl, or a clear flat glass basin. They create a contemporary feel, and add immediate dramatic impact to a bathroom
- Consider a reconditioned retro, or even antique basin, from a recycling shop. This can be a relatively inexpensive and environmentally friendly way to add a unique and beautiful feature to the room
Replacing your bathroom basin is an opportunity to spend perhaps a little more time choosing, to create a point of beauty and visual impact that will lift your bathroom above the ordinary.
Updating a bathroom with a new basin
The basin is a focal point for any bathroom, and choosing the right one to replace an unexciting existing model is an opportunity to very quickly lift the feel and function of the room. Free standing pedestals, benchtop bowls, reconditioned retro's and beautiful glass bowls are just some of the many options that could grace your bathroom, creating a new aesthetic quickly and easily.
