Bathroom accessories: What do you need?
You spend a lot of time in your bathroom, whether it is through showering, using the toilet, or primping and preening in front of the mirror. The bathroom is one room in the house that requires a few accessories to be functional. You can usually accessorise your bathroom to suit the general decor of the room. Visit any home improvement store or hardware store and you should find your usual bathroom accessories are available.
Bathroom fixtures
Bathroom fixtures can be both functional and aesthetic. You need a whole array of fixtures in your bathroom area. Some of these include:
- Toilet paper holders, which can be stainless steel, wooden or plastic;
- Bath towel holders, of which you may need several, they also come in a range of colours, materials, shapes and sizes;
- Robe hooks, these should match your bath towel holders in style and colour and materials. You can place these on the back of the door or in nooks and crannies that will serve the purpose for your guests also if you have extra towels to hang while entertaining;
- Mirrors admit it, most of us spend a lot of time looking in the bathroom mirror each and every day, lets not be shy about it. You can have a single vanity mirror, or mirrors placed all about your bathroom. It is a good idea to have an easily detachable mirror that you can use for checking your hair and peripherals also;
- Soap holders, these need to be placed in showers, baths and around the sink;
- Toothbrush holders, obviously in the vanity area of a bathroom. You may wish to have a separate holder attached as a fixture for each toothbrush user for hygiene reasons;
- Shelving, this can be used to house your deodorant bottles, creams, and shaving items and sink plugs. They come in a range of colours, shapes and sizes and stainless steel edging with frosted glass shelving is very popular in the bathroom area.
Other accessories
Aside from fitted fixtures, your bathroom can also be a room to express yourself.
Some people opt to place potted plants and ferns in their bathroom area, ensuring they are house plant safe species of course. Others like to place shells and beach-like items around on bench tops and shelving for an oceanic theme.
Fragrance holders and other accessories are also often popular in the bathroom, but ensure you do not clutter the area as you also need it to be functional and hygienic at all times.
